History of Dr.Philips
The place is named after Doctor Philip Philips, who was at one time the largest citrus grower in the world. He was responsible for several key innovations in the packaging and processing of orange juice. The area was covered in thousand of acres of orange, grapefruit and tangerine groves. In the 1940s, Philips hired a planner to create a community in the area for people and workers to live in. In 1954, when Walt Disney announced its theme park, the original plan was revised and in 1969, Dr. Philips became the first master planned community in Central Florida.
